Ni’s First Handmade notebook 2014.

I had my art group meeting with all my dear artistic friends last Friday.

It was great to be able to share what we have been doing. Also, we helped each other with our ideas and progress. It has always been my favorite time to talk and share anything with them!! I always look forward to our group meeting each  month. One of our dear group members Kimmie shared her knowledge and tools of how to make your own notebook. It was a great learning experience for me,and I couldn’t thank her enough for everything.

Here is what I did with Kimmie’s help—-my VERY first handmade notebook.

As you all know that I am not a very crafty person, but would like to be one. So, I am so lucky to be able to have Kimmie in our group who has always been sharing her talent and knowledge with me and everyone about crafts. She is a such talented graphic designer, photographer, and paper craft & sewing artist. I am always amazed with her handmade arts. She gave us a well-informed demonstration of how to make these types of notebook by hand. It was eye-opening experience.  She also shared with us her previous projects which I was quite in love with one style of handmade booklet. She mentioned that she may think about have a workshop going, and I am totally there!!!

Please click HERE to go to Kimmie’s blog and see more of her amazing stuff.

I am brainstorming an idea of mine right now,and trying to see if I can combine this technique with my illustration. It will be fun to see what I will come up with.

Trying something new is such a great joy to me!!!

Happy learning something new!!

I am in love with Oak trees and acorns!!! For me, they are so unique and inspiring. I have been sketching all shapes and types of oak tree leaves and acorns lately.

This is another project of mine that I have been preparing for over 2 years now. I hope that I will finally be able to introduce this project with you all when I am ready. For me, I believe in taking your time and effort to prepare each project that meant so much to yourself. My motto is trying all sort of possibilities and put as much of effort into researches, sketches, and eventually create your own versions of your project that you are working on. I have been developing this special project of mine for over 2 years now,yet I am still not ready yet. I hope to introduce this project with you guys sometime next year.

In the meantime, I will share my sketches along the way.

Happy sketching!!

Ni’s Inspired by Nature Photos with my handwritten Chinese Calligraphy-Love 2013

I took some photos from the Nature on my walk few days ago! Feeling like to spend sometime in Nature, I immersed myself in bird signing, leaves shaking from wind, variety of colors and shapes in Nature, and smell of the freshness from plants and flowers. I was under the weather and could not create anything right so, I decided to take some photos from Nature instead. Then, I was playing around with my handwritten Chinese calligraphy with photos that I took. These are what I have come up with. Just want to explore something different as I always like to do. I had fun trying something different!!!

Please click here to view my handwritten Chinese calligraphy on real leaves on my previous post.

Go out to the Nature and enjoy God’s creation around you!! It is the best inspirational place to be in my opinion!!!!

Ni’s handwritten Chinese calligraphy 書法 on leaves 2013.
Chinese brush and ink

Today, I was in mood of trying something different when I tried to practice my Chinese calligraphy 書法. I love collecting leaves on my walk,so I have many different types of leaves on my art table. I am fascinated by all different shapes and colors of leaves. I wish I knew all of them by names. Well, I am learning as I go! I am lucky enough to have a book called Eyewitness Handbooks-Tree to help me identify any kind of leaf that I collect or wish to know more about from time to time.

As always, Nature inspires me to create !!

Like I said I was in mood for something different after working on coloring my illustration titled “Reborn with Love“.  So, I spent all day getting my hands messy with Chinese brushes and ink  in order to practice my calligraphy on the papers. Then, I played around and put my handwritten Chinese calligraphy 書法 onto these leaves. It was my first tryout, and I had so much fun doing it. It brought me joy and peace when I created them.

The top two big leaves are Magnolia leaves that we have around our neighborhood. Magnolia’s leaves were big, so I had more rooms to work on. The surfaces were much easier to apply Chinese ink on. The bottom of three leaves are Spinning Gum if I am not wrong. These were much harder to apply the ink works on the surfaces.  Anyway, I was going to sketch them for my Inspired By Nature sketch series, but I ended up putting my handwritten Chinese characters on them instead.

As Fall is around the corner, I am looking forward to collecting all the colorful leaves off the ground on my walk.

Happy collecting leaves!!!
